Beards are definitely going to 'grow on’ you guys again this year. With more of you working from home, while compelled to use face masks and personal protective equipment when you do venture out, this is not the time to cut back on those magnificent whiskers, ensuring the suave masculine look is here to stay!
Having facial hair has always been considered a symbol of manhood and maturity. Nowadays sporting a beard can not only give more structure to your face and accentuate distinctive facial features, but it can make a bold fashion statement too. Men like Muttiah Muralitharan, Iraj Weerarratne, Brayan Livera, and Chathuranga Kodithuwakku are all rocking different types of beards, as are many other handsome and sexy men throughout Sri Lanka.
This year beards will be shorter in length, and fashionable guys will be cultivating a more trimmed, well-groomed look by taming their facial hair. That means you should think 'beardscaping' and stocking up on luxurious beard balms which are perfect for keeping a beard looking neat and tidy. Most waxes contain fragrant herbs to soften and condition the beard and, with daily use, they nourish and hydrate the skin underneath too.
Don't forget that it's largely your facial shape that determines which style will suit you best. So, for you guys who are thinking of hanging on to your beards, let's take a look at four of the hottest on-trend styles for 2022:
· THE 5 O’CLOCK SHADOW – a timeless classic, often known as a stubble beard. Designer stubble has become a mainstay of men's grooming thanks to the likes of Kumar Sangakkara and Dilan Jay. Few guys actually develop a '5 o'clock shadow' in a single day, as it will take anywhere between two to five days to reach a perfect stubble length, depending on how dark your facial hair is. To achieve a precise and accurate chiselled look, trim your neckline.
· VERDI – named after the 19th-century Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, this legendary rounded three to four-inch beard has a handlebar moustache that dangles in a loose curl over the top of it. The 'tash' can be kept short and distinct from the beard and the whole facial hair can take about four to eight months to develop.
· BEARDSTACHE – basically a full moustache with a little stubble that lasts anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. The beardstache works well with a Chevron moustache that is shaped downwards and towards the corner of your mouth. The stubble adds some definition to your jawline and cheek lines, and the contrast between the full moustache and the stubble looks hot, just like Tharshan Thiyagarajah.
· VAN DYKE – if you can't wait to grow a full beard, this modern pointy moustache and goatee are a perfect combination! Named after the 17th-century painter who painted men with this particular style of facial hair, the Van Dyke adds a certain amount of roguish bad boy to your appearance. It takes patience and dedication to grow the goatee (a length of about 1 inch long) but can make a round face look much narrower. Hair around your cheeks is not required for the Van Dyke goatee so you can trim it all the way down to the skin.
