One of the most memorable things about the 90’s was the fashion. The colour, the fabric and the styles were definitely one of a kind. Needless to say so was the music. Well get ready for some nostalgia because one trend that is definitely back are denim skirts. Denim has always has its own timeline because of its versatility and chicness. In case we were too young in the 90’s to actually enjoy them we are now able to get on that bandwagon.
While denim skirts are quite easy to style it can go wrong equally easily, so here are a few tips.
This is one area you are spoiled for choice. With colours ranging from white to pastels to shades of blue to styles varying from frayed to pencil cut to midiskirts there’s no ending to this range.
If you want a failsafe option pick a simple blue skirt but if you’re feeling adventurous go for a coloured denim one. The only issue you will have is finding a top that will match but shopping is half the fun right?
Depending on your event the length matters. If it is for a casual brunch or a meet up with friends a mini skirt will make a great outfit. If it is for an evening function a midi length skirt with a slight slit will give you that extra glamour.
The best part of a denim skirt is that almost any top is a great match just make sure it is short. Most often crop tops are the go to. A casual, simple cut monochrome crop is perfect for any event. If you want to stand out from the crowd go for a printed top ranging from floral to tribal. Even a shirt top, especially white, tied up or tucked in depending on how it looks will make for perfect evening attire.
You can even throw on a jacket to stand out from the crowd (and if the weather isn’t too hot).
They either make or break your entire outfit so be careful. Since a denim skirt is already a fashion statement in itself you don’t want to distract the focus from that. So less is more in this instance.
Adding some gold hoops can elevate that look from casual to glamour. Shoulder length earrings those of a bright colour will really complete the outfit. Unless you have short hair it is preferable to wear long earrings.
A chunky chain will also accentuate that mid-length skirt, the longer the better however a thin 3 tier chain will better suit a mini skirt.
If you are more a bracelet and bangle type of girl and have no other jewelry on make sure they too are of a bright colour. They don’t have to match perfectly, contrasting colours will work better and draw just enough attention to your wrists whilst not losing focus of the skirt.
If you don’t want to add jewelry per say a bandanna or scarf can add that extra colour too and really make that denim skirt pop especially if you’re wearing a monochrome top. It might be better to keep it to one or two colours as too much of prints can distract your outfit.
Given our tropical backdrop wedges will go perfectly as will gladiator sandals especially with a mini. Flats will pair better with a mid-length or longer skirt. If you want something that works for all styles you can’t go wrong with a pair of pumps or stilettoes.
