Lago Italian Bistro has opened its doors! Ceccato Colombo, the company behind IL GELATO,Park Street Trattoria and IL CAFFÈ, officially launched Lago, with an evening dedicated to Italian food,wine and live music.
Lago is not your typical Italian restaurant. The inspiration for the interiors came by uniquely mixing the architecture and flora found on the shores of Lake Como, and the beautiful tropical forests of Sri Lanka.
The evening started with a typical Italian aperitivo, Aperol Spritz as a welcome drink, and a luscious spread of cheeses, cold cuts, crudites and assorted breads. As the evening progressed, the spread became more and more traditional. Waiters started emerging from the kitchen with all sorts of delicious platters.Real Neapolitan Pizza was probably the most anticipated dish of the evening. It is quite different from other kinds of pizza, as the dough is fermented for 48 hours before cooking. This makes the crust puff up in the oven, giving it a fluffy texture.The fluffy pizzas were then followed by small wooden cones of Fritto misto (Italian crumb fried seafood). Then came the most traditional dish of the evening, Polenta e Brasato. Small cubes of polenta topped with slow cooked beef in red wine sauce, a northern italian favourite. But the evening was not only adorned by stylish guests and delicious food; Sam Day, top local live singer, entertained the guests with his soothing vocals. Some of the guests also joined in the action, and by the end of the evening it looked like a very typical Italian party,with guests singing, good wine and full hearts (and bellies!).
Lago Italian Bistro is located on the ground floor of Colombo City Centre. Open from 10 am to 10 pm, serving all day breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The menu offers a selection of small bites, neapolitan pizzas, pastas, traditional mains and italian style burgers (veg option available), as well as homemade desserts and of course, il Gelato.
