The Design Collective, known for promoting designers from Sri Lanka, hosted the launch of the New Designer Residency recently. Featuring the collections of Himashi Wijeweera, Achala Lee Koh, Nads Ratnayaka and Manasha Silva, the store has now dedicated a space for the young upcoming designers. The designers with high worth potential, identified by Colombo Fashion Week were mentored under CFW’s project seven programme before showcasing at the emerging designer platform at CFW. After, TDC began a consultative process with the designers who caught their attention and finally bagged a chance to retail at TDC. Each with their own different styles and designs, Manasha focuses on her collection being gender fluid and Japanese street style while Himashi makes beeralu hand made lace. Achala shows the impact on the environment from traditional water-based printing techniques and Nads shows off her collection by supporting and uplifting the local craft industry.
